Trend Alert: Monochrome.

We've seen a fair share of celebrities donning head-to-toe print outfits to date ever since the trend was all over the runway. The trend has yet to die off, but as with every trend that stays on for more than a season, the head-to-toe print trend gets an updated look with bigger and fresher prints, moving away from florals and towards modern patterns.

Famous blogger Chiara Ferragni wears a printed suit by Sonia Rykiel when attending the label's Fall 2013 show.

Rose Byrne is darling and elegant in Diane von Furstenburg.

Rita Ora is bright and cheery in a colorful Kenzo coat and pant ensemble.

Teen Wolf actress Crystal Reed wears CH Carolina Herrera at the Teen Choice Awards 2013.

Queen of Prints Solange Knowles gets our attention in DVF.

The trick to pulling off head-to-toe prints is to keep the silhouette clean and to let the outfit grab the attention by muting the accessories, keeping them to either classic colors or in a color taken from the print.

As much as I'd love to try this, I believe most of us (and that includes myself) would find that it is not economical for us to own multiple pant suits and other separates enough to keep this trend going in our wardrobe to last a season. You simply can't make more than one outfit without having to pair the separates with something else.

If you face the same problem, then here's the next best thing: Head-to-toe color or monochrome looks. The most extreme monochromatic looks involve synchronizing your footwear, bag/clutch and belt colors with the entire outfit.

Olivia Palermo is no dirty fellow in head-to-toe yellow with a clear see-through clutch.

Those of us who find it a little too challenging to be dressed fully in a single color can attempt one of the following to lighten up the look:

1) Break up the full monochromatic look by incorporating pieces in classic colors or colors that complement the main color code. Accessorize with printed pieces for a cool factor.

Heidi Klum goes casual in a lightweight blazer and cropped pants.

Olivia Palermo is stylish with a black-and-white blazer, turquoise ankle-strap heels, leopard skinny belt and red LV Sofia Coppola bag with her bright orange ensemble.

2) Incorporate different shades of the same color to soften the impact of a full-on monochrome outfit.

Heidi Klum works a teal color head-to-toe with a snake-print top-handle bag. A leather skirt spices things up and gives the look sex appeal.

3) Putting together pieces with differing texture adds dimension and interest.
